We all know about the visit of the three kings on the night Jesus was born. It is a heartwarming, but inaccurate, story.
They were wise men (not kings). And we don’t know how many of them there were. And they were not present the night Jesus was born (they came later).
Having said that, the visit of the wise men draws our attention to a clash of kingdoms: the kingdom of God (ushered in by Jesus) and the kingdom of the world (represented by King Herod). Theological mumbo jumbo? Hardly, as followers of Jesus, we are immersed in the kingdom of the world all the time. So what? Here’s what. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (James 4:4) Find out more in this week’s sermon.
